Heart failure is the leading cause of hospitalization for people over the age of 65. Heart Failure affects around 6 million adults in the United States. Although the current medications have been shown to prolong survival, there is still a risk of worsening heart failure leading to hospitalization or worse. Therefore, these is a pressing need to develop drugs that could further improve the long-term survival rates.
This study drug aims to improve cardiac function by providing more energy to the heart, which would enhance the heart's pumping strength. This is a different mechanism of action from many existing heart failure drugs, which work to lower blood pressure, thus relaxing the blood vessels so more blood flows through the body.
